Project Duties:
Logo Design
Discovery and Strategy
Branding Development
Copywriting and Proofing
Created: April 2020-23
Objective:
UW Eau-Claire’s University Honors Program is a community built upon creativity, exploration, and academic excellence that extends beyond the classroom, bridging the gap between courses and community. With a growing program came the need for a communication refresh that prioritizes engagement with their current and prospective community of scholars.
As the graphic designer for the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire Honors Program, I lead the redesign of the program’s weekly newsletter, sent to honors students and faculty throughout the academic year. The existing newsletter functions primarily as an information delivery tool, and the goal of the redesign is to transform it into a stronger point of connection for the honors community while clearly highlighting program-specific opportunities.
The project involves reexamining content priorities and restructuring the newsletter to emphasize clarity, consistency, and engagement. This includes developing a new name, logo, release cadence, and visual system, as well as condensing recurring sections to focus on the most relevant honors content without overwhelming readers. All design decisions are made within the constraints of university branding guidelines, institutional policies, and Mailchimp’s platform limitations.
The resulting Honors Headline identity brings a concise, polished, and engaging visual language into an academic context. The redesigned newsletter increases engagement by 10% and earned first place in the National Collegiate Honors Council’s 2022 newsletter contest, demonstrating the impact of thoughtful editorial structure and visual hierarchy in higher-education communications.
